STOP DIET TALK

Alexa, she’s good, but unfortunately she’s not that good. So, until AI can solve this problem, it’s up to each of us! .

I don’t know about you but I find that “diet talk” tends to ramp up at the beginning of the new year (January), around spring break (March-April) and summer (May-August). With summer upon us, you may notice folks talking more about their bodies, weight, eating and exercise. This kind of chatter can be triggering, harmful, and quite frankly borrrrring. If you find yourself among diet talkers, how do you respond? Here are some potential responses:

•”Dieting and trying to control your body is the biggest predictor of weight gain. I’m learning to listen to my body and take care of it”

• “Focusing on my weight doesn’t bring me joy so I’m working on focusing on more important things in my life

•” Talking about food, my body, and exercise make me feel worse so I don’t want to do that anymore. Would you be cool if we don’t talk about it?”

•”I’ve realized that my body knows what it needs so id appreciate if you not comment on my eating choices. I’ve got this covered”

•”Theres no right way to eat or exercise. We’ve all got to learn what’s best for us individually”

 • “Id find it really supportive if you wouldn’t comment on my body or your body, my eating or your eating. It’s not helpful”

• You do you boo boo (then change topic)

I wanna hear from y’all! What do you say?
